General overview of Depression study procedures
Interview
Participants will undergo a clinical interview and complete questionnaires,
providing background on mood, behavior, and history. While the interview may
last anywhere from one to four hours, the questionnaires are available to
complete at home.
fMRI Procedures
FMRI data collection requires approximately 1½-2 hours, with nearly 1 hour spent
inside the MR scanner. Inside the scanner, subjects will complete computer-based
tasks, allowing us to investigate the function of brain regions involved in
various cognitive skills. Following the scan, participants are debriefed and
allowed to ask any additional questions.
Genetic Testing
In order to investigate the relationship between genes and brain function,
subjects will either have saliva or blood sample collected. They will not be
used for diagnostic purposes, and all information obtained through the study
will remain confidential. The main purpose of collecting this information and
DNA is to identify genes influencing psychiatric disorders, other behaviors, and
other characteristics of brain structure and function.
