Welcome to the Medical Image Analysis Laboratory (MIAL) of the Neuropsychiatry Research Center (NRC) at the Institute of Living (IOL).

Our emphasis is on developing and optimizing methods and software for quantitative analysis of structure and function in medical images with particular focus on the study of psychiatric illness.

Primary areas of interest include functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and structural imaging. To this end, we draw heavily from the areas of image processing, adaptive signal processing, estimation theory, neural networks, statistical signal processing, and pattern recognition. We work in conjunction with the Clinical Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory and others at the NRC. The MIAL and NRC operate in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine
