Institute of Living Family Day 2011
Celebrating the Lives of Those with Mental Illness
The IOL Family Day Celebration, a symposium, was
held on October 10th, 2011. The theme of the event was to let people with
Mental and Developmental illnesses and their families learn about the latest
research into causes and treatments of mental disorders at IOL.
Participants were: the Olin Neuropsychiatry
Research Center, as well as programs available from the Anxiety Disorder
Center/Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Young Adult Services.
The guest speaker was author Randye Kaye, of the
book "Ben Behind His Voices" who shared her experience about her son's
struggle with mental illness.

Michal Assaf, MD "Autism Spectrum Disorders-IOL's Clinical &Research
Programs"
Scott Hannan, PhD " Accelerated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
An exhibit of arts and crafts from SRP program and
Grace Webb School provided a look into the talent of people, with mental
illnesses, and stressed that their illness doesn't define who they are,
rather it's what they have, also an underlying message of this Family Day
event.
