Conduct Disorder Research Study

Prevalence and Background:

It is estimated that 6-16% of boys and 2 to 9% of girls meet the criteria for Conduct Disorder. The behaviors associated with the disorder can be seen in a variety of settings including at school, home, and work. These behaviors have adverse effects on the individual as well as to those around them. A small percentage of children and adolescents diagnosed with Conduct Disorder may later develop adult Antisocial Personality Disorder.

The importance of Neuroimaging Research:

It is thought that Conduct Disorder may be linked to dysfunction in a variety of brain structures. Through the use of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Brain Waves (EEG), it is CND lab’s hope to gain a better understanding of what these brain structures are and compare them to deficits seen in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

Paricipants: Adolescents ages 12-18 who have frequent conduct problems and/or have been in trouble with the law.
