What kind of Video Cards does VAPP work with?

Because VAPP does not run in Windows, support for different video hardware is supplied by a 3rd party video driver, called "Scitech Display Doctor".  The quickest way to see exactly which cards are supported by this software is to go to http://www.scitechsoft.com/chiplist/sdd_dos_chiplist.html.  This list is updated with each release of the Display Doctor and you should check here to see if your existing card is supported.

I am configuring a new computer to work with VAPP, which video card should I buy?

I have recently (Jan 2000) tested the ATI XPERT98 card with VAPP and found it to work fine with SDD 6.53.  This card comes in two versions, AGP and PCI, which describe the bus connector it uses.  For any computer made recently, you should get the AGP version, it will run somewhat faster.  (If you want to learn more about what AGP is, check out http://www.ati.com/na/pages/faq/agp_faq.html)  Check your motherboard documentation to confirm that you have an AGP slot.  This card is inexpensive (about $60 USD at the time this was written) , and can be purchased online at http://www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/xpert98/index.html.

My VAPP log file reports that the video accelerator is not supported, what should I do?

This is OK.  If you are using an old version of VAPP with Display Doctor 6.53, many modern cards will give this message.  With VAPP 1.5 or later and Display Doctor 7.0, you shouldn't see this message.  In either case, until you are doing VERY fast stim presentation for many distinct images, VAPP is quite insensitive to the image rendering speed.  Try your stim runs and see if they are fast enough without video acceleration.
