FUTURE DIRECTIONS
Some upcoming features for VAPP include:
- Conditional presentation. This would allow
the experimenter to direct VAPP to execute different portions of the script
depending on subject responses.
- High speed buffering of common images.
VAPP pre-renders all its images in video memory prior to presenting them,
but once presented, they are discarded. If the same image is needed
again later, it is re-rendered from scratch. This enhancement would
maintain an inventory of recently used images that would recycle them
automatically if the same image were needed again. This would allow
full frame rate alternating checkerboards.
- Adjustable refresh rates. VAPP will be set
up to take control of the refresh rate of your monitor, allowing faster
presentation, or simply allowing you to ensure that the same frame rate is
used on different computers.
- VVSP stim file syntax support. The syntax
of the VAPP stim files has diverged somewhat from the original VVSP
specification. This will be restored to make it possible to take
existing VVSP experiments and reproduce them exactly in VAPP.
- TrueType font support. The current font
support in VAPP is limited to fixed height fonts and Windows 2.x style
outline fonts, which do not scale well. Support for TrueType fonts is
needed.
